Hello World,
I’ve always known that I wasn’t alone in this situation…in this “boat”. I mean, look around you. Addiction is on the news, on commercials, movies, it’s talked about on radio, in our schools, etc. And we all know that where there’s an addict, there has to be family and friends around too. But it’s never talked about directly. It’s just something that’s understood. And it’s scary to talk about it. Why? Because you just don’t know the other person’s reaction. And I think, more importantly(and I’ll speak for myself on this one) because (we) I just NEVER think “I wonder if so & so knows anyone personally who’s an addict of some kind”. I just assume that the other person is completely “innocent”. Even if something had been mentioned in passing. I just never think of it. So when I started asking around…well…really, when I started sharing my story & my personal experiences about what I’ve gone through and continue to go through, I was (and still continue to be) shocked. Just shocked at how many people can relate to me directly, and I to them.
I recently spoke with two aquaintances, and as we started sharing our stories back & forth, something amazing happened. We bonded. I didn’t feel alone anymore. We all got emotional, and felt connected to each other. We all got something out of it, either being able to “get it out”, vent, cry, or something changing in our thinking about ourselves. Afterwards, I got to thinking…just how many more of us are out there? Probablly more than we can even imagine. We can start helping each other immediately. We don’t live in a vacuum, so why should we suffer alone?
So I’m asking for your help. Get the word out that there’s a new support group in town…OURFATES. Tell people about this website – especially if you’ve gotten something from reading anything that’s on here. Get the word out. Share. Connect. Help someone else. Register and post your own stories, thoughts & feelings on here. Tell the world. And I promise I’ll have a meeting date and location posted on here no later than the end of February.
Thank you for coming & checking out the website. I hope it helped.
